IHTSDO Projects

Safe and effective exchange of health information is important around the world. Health care providers need to know about allergies, past health problems, medications, and other aspects of a patient's health and health care. IHTSDO's goal is to make this as easy as possible.

IHTSDO is fundamentally a project organization. The Association works with projects that are approved of the Management Board. Approved projects are incorporated into the annual Work Plan. In this way we hope to support and facilitate openness and sharing of knowledge both within and outside the organization. Current and past Work Plans are available in the menu on the right hand. Many of these projects are overseen by IHTSDO's standing committees and working groups. Business Planning Cycle

IHTSDO's business planning cycle outlines the process for developing upcoming Work Plans. Each specific business planning cycle is approved by the Management Board and posted on the Collaborative Space. The following information outlines the basics of IHTSDO's business planning cycle:

  • January to March: The Strategic Framing stage sets the priorities and key focus areas for the year ahead.
  • February: The Management Board reviews IHTSDO's Business Planning paper and the Collection stage is initiated through a notification to the Community of Practice.
  • April: The Collection stage, which includes recommendations from the IHTSDO Standing Committees on proposals put forward, ends.
  • May: Consolidation stage.
  • June: The Management Board discusses options for the upcoming year and addresses affordability.
  • July: The planning assumptions are sent to IHTSDO's Support Organisation and the Management Board discusses options of affordability.
  • August: IHTSDO's Members are informally consulted and a draft Work Plan is completed.
  • September: The Management Board signs off the proposed Work Plan and the necessary documentation is sent to the General Assembly.
  • October: The General Assembly approves the proposed Work Plan.

IHTSDO has developed a flow chart on how one goes through the project life cycle.
