IHTSDO 2010 Awards - Call for Nomination

IHTSDO depends heavily on the contribution of people’s time, energy, knowledge and skills as a key factor in making both the organisation and its products successful. As a mark of that acknowledgement, it has an internal framework to ensure that appreciation is demonstrated formally, as well as informally through heart-felt thanks. At this time, we are inviting nominations for 2 IHTSDO Awards.

IHTSDO AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

One IHTSDO Award for Excellence is given in any year for outstanding contribution to the improvement of SNOMED CT and/or its successful implementation in any aspect of health and social care. The IHTSDO Award for Excellence is symbolized by a physical award that is intended to be an enduring representation of the organization’s recognition and appreciation of the recipient’s achievements. It is designed to be reflective of the nature of our global effort.

Eligibility

Anybody is eligible to receive this award, with the exception of individuals on the Management Board or General Assembly while they are in active service in those roles. Otherwise, the award is entirely open. There are no special circumstances whereby someone can be excluded. It is possible that an exceptional individual may receive the award on more than one occasion.

It is the intention of the IHTSDO that the award would focus on activities in the year preceding the General Assembly meeting, but there is also recognition that someone’s excellence could have been sustained over a number of years and there was a particular event in this year which prompted the nomination. This event may have only a loose connection to the IHTSDO, e.g. a new job or retirement.

In the future, the General Assembly may develop formal criteria to guide future decision making on the basis of experience. These criteria will be published as and when they are developed.

Nomination Process

To nominate an individual to receive the Award of Excellence, please complete a nomination form and email it to IHTSDO. Please note that:

  • Each nomination must be supported by two people
  • At least one of these two people should be part of the IHTSDO Community of Practice (as indicated by the fact that they have one or both of access to the Collaborative Space and signed a Participation in IHTSDO Bodies and Forums Agreement)
  • A citation should be written, which explains why this person at this time should be considered for the award

Nominations can be submitted anytime of the year except the period from March 1st until the April General Assembly Meeting. Nominations received prior to March 1st will be considered for the award made at that year’s General Assembly Meeting.

Selection Process

The recipient of the IHTSDO Award for Excellence for a given year will be made as part of the General Assembly meeting in April of each year for the year pre-dating that meeting. The Management Board will present a briefing to the General Assembly with their preferred candidates and a rationale.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony will take place at the IHTSDO April meeting social event. The Award will be presented by the Chair of the General Assembly or his/her representative. Photographs, applause and whooping are encouraged!

Please note that the IHTSDO will fund the award, publicity related to it (e.g. article in IHTSDO eletter), and the recipient’s participation in the social event at which the award ceremony happens. IHTSDO is not in a position at this time to fund the attendance at the April meeting for the award winner, but this would be considered in the future.

The award would be announced at the IHTSDO conference in October, following confirmation by the General Assembly of the award the previous April. Recognition of the award would also be made through other communications vehicles, such as the IHTSDO eLetter, website, and annual activity report. The IHTSDO will fully fund and support the physical award and publicity related to it. IHTSDO will also provide a free ticket to the conference dinner or similar event where the award is announced.
