The International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) today launched the SNOMED CT Affiliate License Service for Low Income Countries to facilitate the SNOMED CT application process.
In the beginning of 2009, IHTSDO decided to make Affiliate Licenses for the use of SNOMED CT available to users in low income countries free of charge, as they are in IHTSDO Member countries. As a result, health care providers and others in the 49 countries categorized as low income economies by the World Bank have free access to SNOMED CT.
Being committed to facilitate the use of SNOMED CT worldwide further, IHTSDO now launches the SNOMED CT Affiliate License Service for Low Income Countries to allow for online applications. This service was developed in close cooperation with the National Health Service (NHS) Connecting for Health, the host of the IHTSDO United Kingdom Terminology Centre (UKTC), and it aims to simplify and increase the efficiency of the affiliate license application process. The International Releases are made available on 31st July and 31st January each year. It is important to stress that this instance is developed for low income countries.
IHTSDO has developed a flow chart on how to apply for an affiliate license if located in a low incomce country.
