Denmark's Update April 2008

National activities

Denmark participates in the Technical Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee. The other groups we have been engaged in during 2007 are:

  • Mapping SIG
  • Education PG and SIG
  • Pathology and Laboratory Medicine SIG
  • Request Submission PG
  • Translation SIG and Translation Standard Process PG
  • Concept Model SIG.

In March 2007, Denmark hosted a Scandinavian conference where 100 nurses were introduced to the basic content and use of SNOMED CT over two days.

During 2007, we have organized six full day workshops with a focus on the Healthterm project, including presentations of both qualification and implementation projects. The participants included health professionals and IT professionals, as well as vendors and administrators.

Together with our Swedish colleagues, we have organized an interdisciplinary conference in Lund, Sweden, with focus on both the basics of SNOMED CT as well as implementation, research and development projects in April 2008.

The National Release Centre is in the set-up phase. During the first two quarters of 2008, more specified tasks and resources will be described.

Implementation plans/activities

Two major projects are in development. One project addresses the implementation of SNOMED CT connected to the health-related content in an EHR in one of the five regions. The focus is physical examination status and history taking status in order to cover a very generic area of the health record.

Another project addresses the implementation of SNOMED CT in an intensive care unit (ICU) system used in nine major intensive care units. The focus is codes for diagnosis and use of the attribute relations.

Two other projects were initiated at the beginning of 2008, one with a focus on terminology for the specialties of urology and gynecology and another project with a focus on terminology for product résumés and user information in close cooperation with the Danish Medicines Agency.

Translation plans/activities

Translation of SNOMED CT into Danish is in progress. At the end of 2007, 75 % of SNOMED CT had been translated. The translation is expected to be finished at the end of 2008. In the implementation projects, we have also included the clinical qualification of the terminology.

Affiliate activities

Seven Affiliate Licenses had been issued until February 2008, all to vendors.
