Sweden's Update April 2009

National activities

Sweden is currently involved in project and special interest groups for mapping, mapping standards, translation, concept model, enhanced release format, machine & human readable concept model and primary care.

We arrange information meetings aiming at different target groups such as various professional organizations and decision makers as well as in different regions (for example, in Västra Götaland). The work is ongoing; many have shown interest in being involved in future projects.

Our annual information conference occurs in March 2009. This year’s conference intends to focus on how to implement a common language in health and social care.

Implementation plans and other activities

We have several pilot projects underway in different areas such as a common terminology within health care and social care involving elderly care, discharge plans, and psychiatry. Examples of other pilots are:

•    quality registers and indicators

•    child health data

•    standardised care plans

•    diabetes

Socialstyrelsen works closely together with other information and communication technology projects within the country, in areas regarding archetypes and patient summaries.

Translation plans and activities

Translation is well underway. 10,000 concepts are translated each month, and we have now reached 120,000 translated and quality-assured concepts. The translation process is well described and is very similar to the one used in Denmark. The translation is scheduled to be finished in March 2011.

Affiliate activities

There are, at present, 41 affiliate licenses in Sweden, issued to individual persons, vendors, research departments at universities, county councils, and one hospital. There is affiliate information on our webpage and there is a closed website set up for affiliates. In early May, there will be a meeting for affiliates only.
