In January 2010 Estonia became a Member of IHTSDO, joining a global effort to develop, maintain, and enable the use of SNOMED CT in health systems around the world. In joining IHTSDO, SNOMED CT will be made available throughout Estonia for use in electronic health records, health research, and other applications. Users of the terminology in Estonia will also have access to new resources as they are developed. The National Release Center of the IHTSDO in Estonia is the Estonian eHealth Foundation, who promotes and develops national e-solutions within the health care system.
Joining the IHTSDO enables to create uniformity in clinical terminology throuhgout the healthcare sector and in IT for safe, accurate, and effective exchange of clinical and related health information.
