2009 Update
Summary of national activities
Denmark has successfully hosted three national Workshops during 2009 with the overall objective to provide information about terminology, information model issues and clinical guidelines. The workshops apply broadly to all kind of health-it professionals as well as clinicians and universities. The presentations have been presenting and discussing national as well as international projects focused on usability and sharing experiences.
The NRC has since 2008 had a close collaboration with the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare on issues related to both SNOMED CT and information models in order to get the best benefit from the knowledge and resources in the two countries.
Implementation plans and other activities
A strategy for implementing SNOMED CT broadly in Denmark is still in process in a close collaboration between Digital Health and the National Board of Health and with involvement of a broad circle of interested parties. The attention is focused on usability, reliability and implementation.
A Proof of Concept has been made with the Kennedy Centre, a National Research Centre for Genetics, Visual Impairment and Mental Retardation. The clinical genetic advice service uses ICD-10 codes to code disorders and has found it necessary to create several local codes to be able to code into more detail. We have created a mapping between the ICD-10 and local codes and SNOMED CT with a success rate 98 %. The outcome is a subset of 124 SNOMED CT concepts. Using SNOMED CT will open up the possibility of a more exact coding than is the case to day with international codes in stead of local codes to cover more detail.
An allergy and cross-allergy alert proof–of-concept project is being set up to create a national centralized medication decision support service based on SNOMED CT. The part implemented by the vendor to access the system will include a table of SNOMED CT allergy concepts organized in a way so the physicians can easily set the allergy of a patient. The centralized part of the project will include a mapping table from newly created Danish SNOMED medication concepts to the currently most used non-structured medication table in Denmark. Also included in the centralized part is the SNOMED CT based allergy structure (allergy disorder à substance ß product) to check for allergy as well as a cross-allergy table researched by an expert in this field, to check for cross-allergy – a unique feature. The system will be tested by five hospital system vendors covering most of Denmark and will function with two web services, one for access via the mapping of the Danish medication table and one directly to the core of SNOMED CT. These services are planned to be tested by the summer of 2010.
Number of affiliate licensees
The number of Affiliate Licensees issued is 28; the licensees are vendors, universities, PhD-students as well as individuals.
Affiliate activities
All affiliates have been invited to two full day meetings in order to share experiences and deal with joint challenges. It has been a good forum for the National Board of Health as well to get information about what the affiliates need and expect from the NRC, and an opportunity for the NRC to provide inform about relevant national and international interest groups and projects.

Translation plans/activities
The Danish translation project is concluded at the beginning of year 2009.
265,000 concepts are now translated into Danish, and new releases will continuously be translated. There are still remaining editorial issues as well as unresolved request submissions to deal with as a part of the initial translation project. More
