Canada’s representative to the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO®) is Canada Health Infoway (Infoway), and the SNOMED CT® terminology standard and related assets were made available to Canadian users through Infoway’s Standards Collaborative.
Canada Health Infoway is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose Members are Canada's 14 federal, provincial and territorial Deputy Ministers of Health. Launched in 2001, Infoway and its public sector partners have over 200 projects, either completed or underway, delivering electronic health record (EHR) solutions to Canadians – solutions that bring tangible value to patients, providers and the healthcare system.
The Infoway goal is, by 2010, every province and territory and the populations they serve will benefit from new health information systems that will help transform their health care system. Further, by 2010, 50 per cent of Canadians and by 2016, 100 per cent of Canadians will have their electronic health record available to their authorized professionals who provide their health care services.
The Infoway Standards Collaborative was launched in 2006 as a Canada-wide coordination function to support and sustain health information standards in Canada. It is responsible for the implementation support, education, conformance, and maintenance for EHR standards currently being developed by Infoway. It also encompasses several standards initiatives including the Partnership for Health Information Standards, HL7 Canada, Canada's participation in DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) and, in conjunction with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), the secretariat to the Canadian Advisory Committee to ISO/TC 215 Health Informatics – and SNOMED CT.

Inforoute Santé du Canada est le représentant du Canada auprès de l’International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO®), et la norme terminologique SNOMED CT® ainsi que les ressources connexes sont mises à la disposition des utilisateurs canadiens par le biais de l’Unité collaborative de normalisation d’Inforoute.
Inforoute Santé du Canada est une organisation indépendante, à but non lucratif, dont les membres sont les 14 sous-ministres de la Santé aux niveaux fédéral, provincial et territorial. Créée en 2001, Inforoute et ses partenaires du secteur public comptent plus de 200 projets, terminés ou en cours, concernant des solutions de DSE (dossier de santé électronique) aux Canadiens – des solutions offrant une valeur concrète aux patients, aux prestateurs et au système de santé.
L’objectif d’Inforoute, d’ici 2010, est que l’ensemble des provinces et territoires, et les populations qu’ils desservent, profiteront de nouveaux systèmes d’information sur la santé qui contribueront à la transformation de leur système de santé. De plus, d’ici 2010, le DSE de 50 pour cent des canadiens sera accessible aux professionnels autorisés qui leur dispensent des soins et d’ici 2016, c’est la totalité de la population canadienne qui pourra en bénéficier.
L’Unité collaborative de normalisation d’Inforoute a été lancée en 2006 à titre d’entité pancanadienne de coordination visant à promouvoir le soutien et la viabilité des normes d’information sur la santé au Canada. Elle assume la responsabilité du soutien à la mise en œuvre, de la maintenance, de la conformité et de la formation relativement aux normes de DSE qu’Inforoute élabore actuellement. L’Unité collaborative englobe également plusieurs initiatives de normalisation, dont notamment le Partenariat pour les normes d’information sur la santé, HL7, la participation canadienne à la norme DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) et, conjointement avec l’Association canadienne de normalisation (CSA), le secrétariat du comité consultatif canadien de l’ISO/TC 215 - ainsi que SNOMED CT .
