Australia’s representative to the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO®) is the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA). NEHTA is a not for profit company established by the Australian, State and Territory governments to develop better ways of electronically collecting and securely exchanging health information.

NEHTA is leading and delivering a set of related initiatives to deliver a secure, interoperable e-health environment by standardizing the format of, and data contained in, clinical reports such as patient referrals and hospital discharge summaries across all health IT systems.

As the IHTSDO National Release Centre of Australia, NEHTA is responsible for distributing and managing SNOMED CT® in Australia, and develop and maintain content specific to Australia.
